Our Mission

In any given population, approximately one in three people experience chronic pain. Currently, there are no methods to objectively verify or means to identify or quantify the presence or severity of chronic pain. The current standard of care relies on a patient self-report, such as the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), which leads to the inaccurate assessment of a patient’s chronic pain state at baseline and at follow-up, creating uncertainty regarding the appropriate selection of treatment options including prescription of opioids. As a result, patients are often either over-treated, leading to addiction as manifested by the opioid epidemic, or under-treated, leading to readmissions, lost productivity, unnecessary pain and suffering, and significant costs to the health care system. PainQx’s mission is to provide tools for the objective assessment of chronic pain so that clinicians can more effectively manage their chronic pain patients.

About Us

PainQx is an early stage life science company with a patented method for objective, quantitative assessment of chronic pain.  Our system addresses issues associated with the current standard of care  (the Visual Analog Pain Scale: VAS or the Numeric Rating Scale: NRS) such as subjectivity and inaccuracy. PainQx’s platform obtains EEG data from a patient utilizing a mobile, low cost electroencephalography device.  The EEG data is then transported automatically to the cloud where it is processed by PainQx proprietary algorithms to provide an objective, quantitative assessment of pain which is then passed back to the clinician within minutes. The cloud-based PainQx processing service is delivered to the clinical environment on a pay-per-use or subscription basis.

Current Standard of Care: Visual Analog Scale (VAS)
  • Not Verifiable

  • Not Replicable

  • Subjective

The PainQx System, and its related proprietary systems and technology, will provide the first and only service capable of delivering an objective, reliable and quantitative measurement of pain. The potential market is extraordinary. In the U.S. alone, there are hundreds of millions of instances every year where medical care providers need to accurately assess a patient’s pain level. These instances span the spectrum of health care including the emergency room, pain clinics, physician’s offices, nursing homes and other venues.  The accurate assessment of pain is essential to proper patient management and the PainQx System will deliver a revolutionary, breakthrough solution to this critical need.
